Coffin colors get a question mark

It's been fun looking at some of the fan photos from the August 7 Timbers-Sounders match in Portland. (Didn't you hear? 1-0 to the Sounders.)

Looks like it was a wild night in the stands.

(Seattle fans publicly have mainly posted just photos of the match itself.) Edit: here are a few.

One question has come up over and again in my mind, though. Why would you paint a coffin your own team's colors? Isn't the imagery there a bit off some how? After all, a coffin is designed to be buried.

Seattle supporters who traveled to the match held up a "Tonight you have become irrelevant" banner teasing PDX's stay at the lower level.

That's what I call burying the hatchet.

  1. Not the sharpest tools in the, uh, shed, are they?

Or maybe they were REALLY referring to their own team that is quickly sinking to the bottom of USL-1.... AGAIN!

  2. Great point. In South America you see coffins painted the opposing team's colors - a great way to mock a foe. I plan on doing it for Seattle games, an LA Galaxy-colored coffin w/ a Beckham doll inside will be first on the list!
