15th and final season approaches its end

  • September 6.........Miami FC Blues (Stafire, 7:00 PM)
  • September 10.......Montreal Impact (Starfire, 7:00 PM)
  • September 13.......Atlanta Silverbacks (Starfire, 7:00 PM)
  • September 20.......Vancouver Whitecaps (Starfire, 7:00 PM)
  • TBD........................Home playoff match(es)

It's difficult to address the fact that in less than a month the "Seattle Sounders" as we've known them for 15 years will cease to exist. Of course we can quickly look to the light around the corner and see the new club awaits our love, loyalty and attention in Major League Soccer.

It's impossible to really know what kinds of feelings I and other fans will have as we watch the final four home regular season matches and at least one home playoff affair.

If we concentrate on 'our guys,' the players, then it is definitely a bit melancholy to think about the Sounders who won't make the jump with us.

If we concentrate on the future then we get a sudden jolt of anticipation and excitement for both the possibility of repeating as USL Champions and then for training camp kick off in late January of 2009.

Bittersweet, in that order?

I've started a conversation in the forums to get us talking about the great 15-year run of the Sounders, and even to start thinking about an all-time starting eleven from the great guys who have put on our kit since 1994.

I hope you'll come on over and join the talk.

My eyes will be wide open to the sights of this last month.
My ears will ring with the sounds of fan cheers, player chatter and the kicking of the ball.
My heart will likely be in my throat, waiting to settle back in when January rolls around.
