Sounders in Arizona for Open Cup debut

The Seattle Sounders are in Phoenix to play the Arizona Sahuaros Tuesday night in United States Open Cup action.

Last season Seattle advanced all the way to the semifinals before losing 2-1 in overtime to FC Dallas before over 10,000 fans at Qwest Field.

Most pundits are speculating that a deep run in the Cup this year might not be in the cards due to roster depth and injury issues.

The Sounders have been known to flop out early, as they did in 2006 when they lost 3-2 to PDL Amateurs Carolina Dynamo. If Seattle can get past the amateur Sahuaros they will host the winner of the Portland Timbers-Hollywood United match at Starfire June 24th in the next round.
