2008 Seattle Sounders Media Day

It was Media Day for the 2008 USL-1 Sounders, but everywhere you looked at Qwest Field you could see signs of 2009 on the horizon, including this etched door at the entry to the VIP / Press area.

www.GOALSeattle.com coverage of 2008 Seattle Sounders Media Day is coming on line. Below is a video with some highlights of the event. Here's a gallery from your blogger.

The announcement of Sebastien Le Toux as the first Sounders FC player was the real news (see previous blog post). Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer talked about his split duties in 2008: win with the Sounders and also test out talent for MLS. He mentioned the club would likely not add players to the 2008 roster until the July transfer window, with an eye only on possible MLS-level talent. He also said Sounders FC would likely add more players beyond Le Toux after October.

Sound Transit was honored for their 2008 kit sponsorship. There were more media present than even before thanks to the eventuality of MLS. Especially of note the increase in Hispanic media.

Players had spirited squad matches. At one point Costa Rican trilaist (defender) Mike Rodriguez collided hard with Andre Schmid and took a while to get back on his feet (captured in my gallery).

The new Field Turf looks simply stunning. So close to grass even staring at it at ground level.

The day was overcast, windy and cold. The aura of 'out with the old, in with the new' hung over the event like the clouds blanketing the Seattle skyline.
