Sounders notch first victory of 2008

Dear Mom, We Won! Love, your Sounders.

The Seattle Sounders have arrived...in the 2008 victory column.

Seattle beat the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-0 in Atlanta to level their record at 1-1-1 on the new season. Leighton O'Brien scored a miracle goal on a bending corner kick that went in all on its own in the 8th minute.

In the second half a searching ball up the middle from Danny Jackson went all the way through to a charging Sebastien Le Toux. Replays seemed to indicate that Le Toux had no touch on the ball, but his charge brought out the goalkeeper, and eventually the ball trickled into the net. Le Toux was given initial credit for his first tally of 2008.

Chris Eylander made several diving stops to earn the shutout.

Atlanta must be sick of seeing Seattle. Last season the Sounders outscored the Silverbacks 7-0 over three matches. Now in four recent face-offs Seattle has 3 wins and a draw and a 9-0 goals lead.

The Sounders will host Portland May 10th at Qwest Field in their home opener.
